Can I use my ipod charger to charge other things?

April 20th, 2010 by

I have a griffin USB power adapter/charger that I bought for my ipod. Can I use it to charge my Bluetooth headset and my Playstaion 3 controller too? Or would it output to much power or something?
It is a AC adapter that you can plug a USB cable into.

If you look at the label on the charger, it should tell you what the output voltage is, normally 5V for USB devices. It will also list the output amperage, probably between 250mA and 1A. If the device you want to charge uses the same charging voltage, and the amperage draw is LESS than the output of the charger, then you can use it to charge those devices. I’m guessing that your controller and headset have 4 1.2V rechargeable batteries or battery packs in them. They would use a nominal 4.8V charger, but should charge fine on 5V. Check the labels on your equipment, and I bet you’ll find that they will match.
